Following the Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake that hit the Hyuga-Nada Sea in the evening of August 8, 2024, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a “Nankai Trough Earthquake Emergency Information” (Giant Earthquake Warning), warning people against the next huge earthquake. The agency said that the possibility of a large-scale earthquake occurring in the expected focal area of the Nankai Trough earthquake is relatively higher than usual, and called for disaster prevention measures to be taken in accordance with information from the government and local governments.
In view of this, MWO-Osaka advises all Supervising Organizations, Implementing and Accepting Organizations and Principals to conduct a briefing to their Filipino workers on the local government’s disaster (earthquake) preparedness program, including the preparation of an emergency kit and its contents, and the designated evacuation areas. You are also requested to monitor the conditions of your Filipino workers and report in this office any incidents involving them through the MWO Osaka email address: mwo_osaka@dmw.gov.ph
The concerned Philippine Recruitment Agencies are advised to monitor their workers and ensure, in coordination with their principals, that their workers are briefed on what to do in case of an emergency.
Filipino workers are encouraged to take the necessary precautions and to prioritize their safety.
Thank you for your cooperation.
